JOHN URSEM
HISTORICAL:
Born 1st of June 1946 in Den Helder, Holland my family moved to Australia in 1958 in an effort to improve our lifestyle. The first 6 years were spent farming after which I became a storeman for a national stationery company, Jasco Pty Ltd. Promotions resulted in managing North Queensland from a Townsville base and the ACT in Canberra.
The urge to "do my own thing" resulted in my leaving the company in 1980 to start my own business with the help of my better half.
OTHER INTERESTS:
The love of farming sees me on a property not far from work which takes up most of my spare time. Looking after some 200 acres I grow beef cattle, grow a bit of pasture and recently planted a plantation of paulownia trees. Access to plenty of water allows me to irrigate at will. Native timbers abound on the property providing much needed shade and shelter for the animals as well as timber for fencing. It keeps me quite busy. I'm a bit of a "do it yourself" man.
HOBBIES:
I haven't got time for many (I certainly don't call working the farm a hobby) but playing squash on a competitive basis keeps the blood circulating pretty well and stress at a reasonable level. I'm pretty handy with the hands and like to play around with mechanical things or creating something I need. I like surfing the net but not for too long in the one session. I also like to go trailbike and horse riding when I get time and fixing irrigation pipes in the dam in the middle of winter when the temperature is -5 C is just fantastic (I'm kidding I don't like that one bit).
