| One of the safest beaches in Queensland is at Tannum Sands, just 9km off the Bruce Highway (the turnoff is between Bororen and Benaraby, although the area is also accessible from Gladstone).
Benaraby, situated where the Boyne River crosses the Bruce Highway, is a good spot to wet a line looking for barramundi, mangrove jack, bream and flathead.
Take a canoe trip down the Boyne River, travel to the Calliope Historical Village about 15 minutes away by road and visit the Artists Colony on the way.
Lake Awoonga is about a 10-minute drive from Benaraby and is a beautiful expanse of water which is becoming famous for its barramundi fishing.
