THE RAILWAY was an integral part of the establishment of Mount Morgan as a town.
And even though the rail services have long ceased to exist and much of the railway line is gone, the Mount Morgan Railway Station is still a vital landmark - especially if you’re a visitor!
Apart from its importance as an historic building and home to old engines and carriages, it’s now the town’s visitor information centre and is open daily from 9.00am.
Watch the nine-minute 3D movie, “Ride the Razorback,” which tells the story of the rack rail system that tamed the Razorback Range. In its day, it was one of only two such systems in Australia and operated for more than half a century. Fittingly, the “movie theatre” is a railway wagon!
Gather information on what to see while you’re in town, including the mine tour which is the only way to see the famous old gold mine as well as unique dinosaur footprints.
Learn about the railway, the suspension bridges, historic buildings of the town, the story of “running the cutter” and the town’s golden past.
While you’re there, browse through the kiosk which sells a range of souvenirs, arts and crafts. You can pick up anything from hat pins and postcards to indigenous paintings, hand-made teddies, jewellery and wood-turned articles.
