WHEN you think of an Australian holiday at its best, chances are you will visualise a long white sandy beach alongside gorgeous blue water. It’s part of the Australian psyche to think that the words “holiday” and “beach” should go together.

And if you’re dreaming of a beach holiday, dig your toes into the white sand at Bucasia Beach, about 10km north of Mackay. There’s a swimming enclosure, the fishing is great off the beach, and the north-east aspect means it is protected from south-easterly winds.

When you want a change from fishing off the beach, there’s a boat ramp at the creek where you can put in your boat.
