IN 2009, the first ever Angel Flight Outback Trailblazer became the hottest new 4WD charity event on the calendar. This year, the organisers say it’s going to be even better.
'For seven days and nights, starting on October 17, participants in the team challenge (every vehicle holds an Angel Flight ‘team’) will drive a four-leaf-clover-shaped trail in Queensland’s outback to see some of the fabulous sights of the outback, meet the locals and raise money to keep Angel Flight in the air. This year’s theme is Dinosaurs and Bush Christmas, so get ready to discover dinosaurs in the hills of Winton and enjoy an out-of-season Christmas pageant at the Australia Stockman’s Hall of Fame in Longreach. You also experience the hospitality of the tiny bush towns along the route. One of the highlights will be the village of Jundah transforming itself to host a Bavarian-style Oktoberfest!
Angel Flight relies totally on donations. It pays for the fuel used during flights to transport people who require medical treatment in cities far from home. Pilots donate their time, skills and the bulk of their aircraft costs. There are even ‘earth angels’ - volunteers who transport people from airport to hospital. This is a phenomenal chance to have a brilliant and unusual holiday while helping others. So get your Angel Flight team together and start fundraising!
