IF YOU own a motorhome or have ever thought you’d like to, Barcaldine is the place to be in May.

The Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia’s 21st Anniversary Rally (CMCA Rally) is expected to attract more than 2000 people, more than doubling Barcaldine’s population for the duration of the rally.

The rally will be held in the Barcaldine Showgrounds from May 20 to 27 and is open to members of the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia. There are seminars on everything from generators to GPS devices, trade stalls, entertainment at night and bush ­poetry breakfasts most mornings.

The day before the rally (May 19), they’ll attempt to break the record for the longest line of motorhomes. The record to beat is 672 motorhomes!

If you’re not a CMCA member, you can still attend their open day on Saturday May 26. There’s a small gate charge, which in turn is donated to the SES. Other funds raised during the rally will go to Angel Flight.

If you’ve had to leave your motor-home behind (or haven’t bought one yet), air-conditioned accommodation is available at Starlin Units in Oak Street. Fuel up there, buy ice and groceries, or have breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Mobil Cafe seven days.
