CHINESE takeaway. Billy tea and damper. Entertaining visits from a genuine bushman. It’s not the kind of thing you expect at a caravan park.
But then, the Homestead Caravan Park has always given that something extra to its guests. As well as being a quiet green oasis where you can park your van, pitch your tent or hire a cabin, this is an entertaining place to stay.
Seven days a week during the main season, the campfire is lit and billy tea and damper are prepared in the gidyea coals. If you’re keen to have a holiday from cooking, owners Ben and Thanh Elst also prepare dinner on Tuesday nights (usually a sausage sizzle or campoven stew) and you can buy takeaway Chinese food on Friday and Saturday nights.
Most nights, a country music singer provides some entertainment and a bush poet usually recites some rhyme on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday nights!
A service station is also part of the complex (fuel discount is available for park guests) which also has a shop, recently extended. You can get everything from icecreams and sausage rolls to souvenirs and car batteries. There’s even a coffee corner where you can make your own cuppa. The park also runs a free exchange library and internet station.
