The town of Barcaldine has a population of 1700 people. The area has an annual rainfall of approximately 475mm, and the chief industries for the district are wool growing and beef cattle.
The area relies on the Great Artesian Basin for water. In fact, Barcaldine had the first artesian bore, drilled in 1886 at Back Creek.
As you discover all the attractions of Barcaldine, you'll notice that all the streets are named after trees. See the historic piece of living history, the Tree of Knowledge.
Visit the Australian Worker's Heritage Centre, which was established to commemorate the lives of all working Australians, past and present, and their contributions towards the development of a nation. |
