STAY at the Birdsville Caravan Park. If you’re not towing a van, the park offers accommodation in budget rooms. The park consists of 30 acres, part of which is a billabong which is a tributary of the Diamantina River.

Get the most from your visit. Join one of the campfire entertainment and dinner nights, listen in on a “talk and tipple” session and book a town tour, which leaves at 2.00pm and takes about an hour. It includes a drop-off at the Working Museum. And make sure you take the extremely popular Big Red Sunset Tour, which leaves around 5.00pm most days. Sitting on the biggest sandhill in the Simpson Desert to watch the sun set over the desert is amazing!

The Birdsville Caravan Park is operated by Outback Parks, which also has the Channel Country Caravan Park in Quilpie. If you’re heading towards Quilpie after Birdsville, make sure you enquire about the mates’ rates you can get by staying at the Quilpie park.
