Discover the magic of artesian water when you take a dip in a soothing artesian spa or swim laps in the 50m swimming pool, both of which are heated during the winter months. The pool also has a disabled lift and walk-in access. Within the centre is a free barbecue. The aquatic centre is open daily from 10.00am to 6.00pm between May and September, while the summer hours are 6.00am to 10.00am and 2.30pm to 6.30pm Monday to Friday (closing half an hour earlier on Thursdays) with the centre open 10.00am to 6.00pm on weekends.

For a water feature of another kind, stroll beside an outback river and enjoy nature when you follow the Blackall Birdwatchers Trail. The trail starts at the picnic area on the Blackall-Isisford Road and follows the banks of the Barcoo for about 2.5km until you reach the environmental loo, then it’s time to turn back. Pick up a map and leaflet from the information centre naming more then 100 species of birds that have been sighted along the trail.

Further afield, visit Idalia National Park, approximately 112km from Blackall, in the Gowan Range. The park has a wide variety of flora and fauna with rugged beauty with majestic red river gums, sandy riverbeds, spring-fed waterholes and stands of acacias, open woodlands and rocky escarpments inhabited by yellow-footed rock wallabies.
