Cosmos Centre at Charleville.
 |
Charleville is situated on the Landsborough Highway, known by travellers as the Matilda Highway.
The town has a population of 3500, making it the largest town in the Murweh Shire. Other towns include Augathella, with a population of 400 people, Morven with 230 people and Cooladdi with just five people.
The shire has four artesian bores. Artesian water is essential to the town's survival, as the average rainfall of the area is just 491mm a year. The temperature in winter ranges from -3 to 20 degrees C, and in summer from 20 to 40 degrees C. Properties vary in size from 25,000 acres to 40,000 acres.
When you visit, don't miss Charleville's greatest attraction, the amazing Cosmos Centre. Shows, interactive displays and telescopes are all part of this brand new centre.
Tour the School of Distance Education and find out how schooling is achieved even when students live hundreds of kilometres from their school.
Visit the Royal Flying Doctor Base and tour its visitors centre.
