MOST outback towns have a racecourse, but the superb facilities at the Central Warrego Race Club make race days something very memorable in Charleville.
The grandstand can seat hundreds of people and for those who like to watch the races in air-conditioned comfort, an upstairs area has huge expanses of clear glass overlooking the course. There’s also a bar, public address system and two televisions.
Six television monitors are set up on the site so that punters can view the southern races via Sky Channel, and there is a mini-tote on course. The complex, in Partridge Street, is fully catered, with meals and refreshments available. It also has a meeting/special events area.
The equestrian facilities are just as sophisticated. They were created so that horses could be both accommodated and trained on the site, and a training track is situated on the inside of the racetrack.
There is usually a race day every month from April to November.
