The story behind the Steiger Vortex Rainmaking Guns
 |
Drought is something we can all relate to, particularly as we have lived through one of the worst droughts in Australia’s history. In the 1902 drought, Queensland Government meteorologist Mr Clement Wragge decided to experiment in Charleville with Vortex Rainmaking Guns in an effort to provide some relief from the drought. Strategically placed at various locations, six of these vertical guns were charged with gunpowder and fired into the sky in the hope that the explosion would change the atmospheric pressure and rain would fall. Did it work? Find out at Graham Andrews Parklands where two of the guns are on display. |
