THREE nights a week, there’s a barbecue for guests at the Gilbert Park Tourist Village at Cloncurry.

Around sundown, people gather at the camp kitchen for king salmon, potato fritters, tossed lettuce salad and bread and butter.

It’s a barbecue like no other, with the wonderful Gulf seafood as the main attraction. It’s also a good chance to meet fellow guests.
And for the days when you feel like presiding over your own barbecue, there are a couple of wood barbecues.

Gilbert Park offers cabins, drive-through powered sites for caravans and a camping area for visitors, as well as a pool and camp kitchen.

The park itself is interesting. Rather than the usual procedure of “clear then build”, the facilities have all been created within the existing environment - a rugged landscape of boulders.
There are 25 cabins, fully self contained including TV, microwave and air conditioning.
