IF YOU want to picture a little of Cloncurry’s past or some of the animals of the region, visit the Ampol Service Station in Ramsay Street. There, two complete walls sport murals created by local artist David Sheffield.

One shows native flora and fauna, including emus, snakes and brolgas in full dance. There are also kingfishers, galahs on the wing and a huge eagle.

The other mural traces Cloncurry’s past, including Aborigines, Afghan settlers, Chinese gold diggings and mining.
