Cunnamulla, with a population of 1600 people, is the major town in the Paroo Shire. Other towns in the shire include Eulo, with 60 people, Wyandra, with 70 people, and Yowah with 100 people.
There are 3144km of roads in the shire, 731km of them are bitumen. The major highways - Bulloo Development Road, Balonne and Mitchell Highway, are all-weather sealed.
Cunnamulla has an all-weather tarmac airstrip for light to medium aircraft. The annual rainfall is 300mm, so the town relies on artesian bores for its water supply.
Facilities: The Post Office is a subagency for the Commonwealth Bank and there is a National Bank in town. EFTPOS facilities are available at service stations and some stores.
Discover the outlying areas of the shire - opal fields and national parks where the amazing lakes attract an abundance of waterbirds.
Cunnamulla is the southern gateway to the Matilda Highway and lies at the crossroads to the Adventure Way travelling west to Eulo and the Yowah Opal Fields. |
