Outback for all at Nardoo

THE SOUTHERN Queensland outback is a land of spectacular sunsets, starry nights, the home of both wildlife and mobs of sheep and cattle that number in their thousands.

And while it must be said that not all of the outback is accessible all of the time, just 38km north of Cunnamulla on the Matilda Highway is the award-winning Nardoo Station, which is accessible in all weather.

David and Carmel Meurant welcome visitors to Nardoo to experience a small part of life on a 44,500ha sheep and cattle property in Queensland’s outback.

Guests can do as much or as little as they wish. They can go on property tours or join some of the daily activities around the station. Nature lovers will be well rewarded on bushwalks, and it’s an area that appeals to photographers and keen birdwatchers alike.

If you’re a fishing enthus­iast, try your luck in the nearby picturesque Warrego River or throw your pot into one of the earth tanks on the property to catch some yabbies.

Or if you prefer, you can just take it easy and enjoy the tranquillity of Nardoo or the company of other guests. At day’s end, relax in the hot artesian spas and enjoy a meal and a drink and share stories with the company around the campfire.

Most meals are available, so you don’t even have to cook dinner! They also have a liquor licence so you can relax over a drink or two.

Annually, in the second week of May, Nardoo hosts Music in the Mulga, a five-day country music festival. It’s a treat to hear country music performed in authentic bush surroundings, and Nardoo provides the perfect backdrop.
