THINGODONTA’s Den is right in the midst of Mount Isa’s shopping precinct in West Street. It’s a treasure trove of gifts, souvenirs and interesting wares.
You’ll find everything from the tried-and-true souvenirs like teaspoons, keyrings and a huge range of T-shirts, to unusual articles that make superb gifts. Check out the hand-painted glassware, opal and fashion jewellery and some baby lines that new grandmas just won’t be able to resist. For something special, choose a piece of gold-plated gumleaf jewellery.
There is Aboriginal art and an unusual range of framed copper-coated gum leaves is a reminder that Mount Isa is known as ‘the copper city’ because of the amount of copper ore mined in the area. Clocks made from local minerals make it a pleasure to check the time. There’s a big range of hats and Hema maps, too.
Opening hours are 9.00am to 5.00pm weekdays and from 9.00am to 2.00pm on weekends.
