NORMANTON will host the State International Shooting Sports Federation Championships this year.
It’s not as surprising as you might think that this small town, well away from major populations, has been chosen three times to host this event, for the Normanton Gun Club has a national standard trench layout and skeet. The competition, from July 11 to 13, will include the Olympic disciplines of trap, skeet and double trap.
In fact, Normanton has a big claim to fame in shooting circles. Town resident Diane Reeves won a gold medal for trap at the Commonwealth Games in England in 2002. She plans to try for Olympic selection and her daughter Cherie, who shoots skeet, also has Olympic hopes.
Meet Diane and her husband Wayne (also a shooter!) when you fuel up at the Top Service Station.
If you are a trap shooter, be in Normanton on May 24 and 25 for the annual Trap Carnival.
