Quilpie information centre.

Quilpie is opal country, and for those who love the multi-coloured glow of opal, it's a great opportunity to buy it in its "home town".
The district itself was founded on grazing, both sheep and cattle, and Quilpie is the railhead for transporting cattle from throughout the channel country, as well as handling sheep and wool in large quantites.
Your first stop in Quilpie should be the Quilpie Museum and Visitors Centre, which comprises a museum, information centre and art gallery. There are also free opal cutting demonstrations held on a regular basis.
Then visit Lake Houdraman, 6km north of town on the road to Adavale and Baldy Top Lookout which is just out of town.
