Thargomindah, the headquarters for the Bulloo Shire, is an outback town where the pace of life is slow. Sparsely populated with just 220 people in a shire with an area of 73,000km, it's a reminder that Australia has a vast interior.
See the newest attraction, the Hydro Power Plant and Display Park and the century-old artesian bore. Also talk the new Bulloo River Walk and visit Leahy Historical House. You can even have a game of golf while you're in town.
Be sure to stop at Lake Bindegolly National Park.
From Thargomindah, you can either travel to Quilpie via Toompine, or keep heading west to the heartland - right over the border to Innamincka in South Australia. On the way, make the short detour to sample the hospitality at the Noccundra Pub.
