Outback fun galore at this famous festival

THE OUTBACK Festival attracts visitors from all over the world. Come and be amazed at how much fun you can have from September 26 to 30.

The highlight event of the unique Outback Festival is the $5000 Quilton Australian Dunny Derby. Yes, a loo race. It’s mad, marvellous fun and there’s even, unbelievably, a cultural aspect allied to it - an auction of Dunny Door Art by Gold Coast Artist Peter J. Hill and other artists. There’s more fun with the World Crayfish Derby race meeting - Winton’s answer to the Melbourne Cup.

The Outback Iron Man, Iron Woman and Masters of the Outback events, will test the skill and endurance of contestants over the five days.

Join in the True Blue Aussie Sport competition. As well as sports like cricket, golf and bowls, there are more unusual segments for marbles, hookey, cow pat discus, broom throwing, wool bale rolling, whipcracking championships and the highlight of the comp, the True Blue Roo Poo final.

Non-stop fun is planned for children, including a teddy bears’ picnic with special guests the Pooki Doos, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, music workshops, song, clowning, wobble board painting, an iron kid event, whipcracking tuition and workshops by tap dance group “Raw Metal.”

Music artists will include Luella and the Blue Heeler Band, The Wolverines, Gold Coast show band Captain Wow, Whitsunday solo artist Jon Griffin, rhythm percussionists Circle of Rhythm, top Sydney band Aussies Walk the Line featuring the Highway Men with their tribute to Johnny Cash, Kapelle Jagermeister Ompah Band and the Alpenrosen German Folk Dancers and Bell Ringers. There will be theatre performances and cabarets, grand parade of floats, mardi gras, afghan bazaar, art, craft, food and wine markets. A truck and ute muster will offer $3000 in prizes.

A truckies reunion will feature a truck parade, drovers’ reunion concert, and Australia’s strongest man Derek Boyer will attempt to break his own Guinness World Record with a roadtrain pull.
