AUSTRALIANS love being out in the open air. It’s a pleasure to visit the RSL Club in Winton, where you can relax and have lunch on the open deck or have a drink in the shady beergarden and barbecue area at the back of the club.
The RSL Club serves lunch and dinner seven days a week at Banjo’s Bistro and is fully air conditioned. With a name like Banjo’s, the bistro clearly serves up Australian fare. But it also has fantastic Chinese meals and a range of Thai and Malaysian dishes as well. So you could go there seven days a week and always find something mouthwatering, and different, to eat.
Inside, the 1950s building has some war items on show, ranging from binoculars to swords. Honour boards list all the people who have gone to war from Winton since the Boer War.
If you’re a beer buff, choose one of the nine varieties on tap (including Toohey’s extra dry and Hahn super dry). With Austar and a big screen, it’s the place to be when you want to watch a big game.
And remember, you don’t have to be a member to visit the RSL. Just sign the visitors’ book as you go in. You’ll get a friendly welcome.
